Investigating the Effect of Ni Loading on the Performance of Yttria-Stabilised Zirconia Supported Ni Catalyst during CO2 Methanation

CO2 methanation was studied on Ni-based yttria-stabilised zirconia (Ni/YSZ) catalysts. The catalysts were prepared by the wet impregnation method, where amount of Ni content varied from 5% to 75%. Thereafter, analysed BET, XRD, SEM and H2-TPR. BET results showed an initial increase in surface area with loading, then a decrease after 30% loading. XRD revealed that crystallite size increased as loading increased, while H2-TPR shift reduction peak temperature higher temperature, indicating reducibility decreased increased. activity synthesised for passing mixture H2, N2 total flow 135 mL min−1 GHSV 40,500 h−1 g−1 through continuous quartz tube fixed-bed reactor (I.D. = 5.5 mm, wall thickness 2 mm) containing 200 mg catalyst at range 473 703 K under atmospheric pressure H2:CO2 ratio 4. tested Ni/YSZ improvement reaction around 613 653 K, depending Beyond optimum catalyst’s started decline, irrespective In particular, 40% displayed best performance, followed catalyst. improved high (40% Ni) attributed hydrogen coverage site both H2 adsorption activation.
